Jimmie Deas - Pastor
Jimmie is originally from Florence, South Carolina where he graduated from Wilson Senior High School. He Graduated from South Carolina State University (formerly South Carolina State College) in 1971 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology. He is also a graduate of the General Motors and General Electric Management Programs and earned a Teacher Certificate from the Evangelical Teacher Training Association Certificate Program. Jimmie has completed the three year program at the J. D. Williams Bible Institute operated by the National Education Department of the Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Inc.
Jimmie repented of his sins and was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ at the age of eleven. He received the gift of the Holy Ghost shortly afterward. Since then, he has served in many capacities including Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Regional Youth Director, and was ordained a Deacon in 1979. He was later ordained Elder as a result of the call of God upon his life. He became Pastor of the local assembly here in Florence in January 1992.
Married to Ida, from Mullins, South Carolina. Jimmie and Ida have four children: Jimmie Jr, Terrence, Christopher, and Bryan.
Diane is originally from Society Hill, SC where she graduated from Rosenwald
High School as the valedictorian of the class of 1973. She graduated from Florence-Darlington
Technical College in 1976 with an Associate degree in Business in Data Processing Technology.
Diane has been employed with Nucor Steel for the past 25 years.
Renita was born and raised in Darlington, South Carolina where she is a graduate of St. John's High School and Florence-Darlington Technical College with an Associate Degree in Accounting. Renita is currently employed with State Farm Insurance.
Renita was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ on October 3, 1999 and later received the gift of Holy Ghost. She has served as the Assistant Secretary of the Women's Auxiliary and is currently a member of the Senior Choir, the Church Announcer, and the Bookkeeper.
Renita is married to Timothy Hunter of Darlington, South Carolina. Renita and Timothy are the proud parents of 3 beautiful children: Porsha, Jessica and Timothy Saul.
Gardenia is originally from Sumter, South Carolina where she graduated from Eastern High School. She graduated from Voorhees College in Denmark, South Carolina in 1973 with a B.S in Mathematics. She received her Masters from Cambridge College in Boston, Massachusetts in 1995. She has taught in the public school system for over 34 years.
Gardenia completed the Leadership Training Program operated by the National Education Department of the Progressive Church of our Lord Jesus Christ, Inc. in July 2008.
Gardenia repented of her sins and was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ in 1984. She received the gift of the Holy Ghost on June 17, 1984. Since then, she has served faithfully as an Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Women's Teacher, Greeter, Hospitality Committee Chairperson, and Coordinator of the Annual Prayer/Seminar Clinic.
Gardenia is married to William David from Dillon, South Carolina. Gardenia and William were blessed by God to have two wonderful children: Derrick Jermaine and Wilhelmenia Miesha. They are the proud grandparents of two boys and four girls.
Cynthia gives thanks unto the Lord for his goodness he has shown towards her. She gave her life to Christ on October 29, 1976 and God has been working in her life every since that day making and saving her into what he wants her to be and she give him all the glory, honor, and praise.
Cynthia became a member of the Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Florence on May 10, 1981 and the Lord has kept her here for 27 years. In those 27 years she served in many capacities. At the present time, Cynthia is the Vice President of the Women Auxiliary Board.
Cynthia has had the honor of teaching children for 27 years and God has kept her all the way. She has many scriptures that are very dear to her: “Delight yourself in the Lord and he shall give you the desires of your heart.” “Jesus is the best thing that ever happened to me!”
Cynthia is married to a God sent man, Herbert Lee Deas, Sr. The Lord has blessed us to be married for 27 years and have four beautiful children: Victoria, Herbert Lee II, Brandon, and Sierra. They have one grandchild, Dylan Roberts and one son-in-law, Kevin Roberts.
Herbert is From Florence, South Carolina where he graduated from McClenaghan High School. Herbert spent several years as a Sales Manager for Sears in Florence. After preparing to take some classes at Florence Darlington Tec. Herbert is now employed by Honda in Timmonsville, S.C. He is also a mentor for Honda at one of the elementary schools in Timmonsville, S.C.
Herbert has also earned a certificate of completion from the National Sunday School Teacher Training Program of the Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Inc. He has served in many capacities including Usher, President of the Usher Board, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Youth President and National Youth Officer.
Herbert is married to Cynthia (Smoot) Deas from Florence, South Carolina. They have four lovely children: Victoria, Herbert II, Brandon, and Sierra.
Connie Robinson - Youth Vice President
Connie has been a member of Progressive Church as long as she can remember. She recalls singing in the "Gospel Youth Choir" at the age of seven. At the age of eight she received the Precious Gift of the Holy Ghost, and since that day has been working in the service of our Lord. In addition to her position as Youth Coordinator, she is a member of the choir and also the church announcer.
Connie thanks God for blessing her this past year as she completed all educational requirements necessary to be a Registered Nurse. Typical of Connie is her comment, "Thanks be unto God for giving me the mind to want to serve him in every way that I can. All power and Glory Be Unto the Lord Jesus Christ for shaping me to be who and what I am today!"
Levern Alls - President of Brotherhood
Levern was born and raised in Florence, South Carolina and is a graduate of Wilson High School. Levern joined the Progressive family in 2000. By the grace of God he repented of his sins and was baptized in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Since that time Levern has been blessed to be able to serve in our local assembly.
Levern served as Brotherhood Vice President and is currently serving as a Worship Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Ordained Deacon, and most recently selected as the President of the Brotherhood. Levern said, "I give God the Glory that he allows me to serve.''
Levern is married to Jamie G. Alls. He is self employed in the Residential and Commercial Construction Industry. They have two daughters: Lakisha and Lavon and one grandson, Cameron.
Michael was raised in Darlington, South Carolina. After graduating from Mayo High School, Michael went on to serve in the Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1979. After his tour with the Navy, Michael continued his education at the Florence-Darlington Technical College. He is presently employed at Nucor Steel in Darlington, SC.
Michael has been a member of The Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ since 1980, and was ordained as a Deacon in 1994. In addition to his current ministry as Superintendent of Sunday School and the Chairman of Finance, he works as a volunteer at the Palmer Release Center.
Michael is married to Marie Mack. They have two children, Travis and Shanda.
Sammie Deas Jr. - Choir Director
Sammie is married to LaTashia Deas and are the proud parents of six children: Bryan, Brytnie, Faithe, Hope, Joye, and Sammie III.
Mary was born and raised in Florence, South Carolina. She has been a member of this local assembly since 1960, after being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. She graduated from Wilson Senior High School in 1969, and continued her education at Florence-Darlington Technical College and Poyner Adult Center. She has received her Certificate in Ward-Clerk Secretary and Nursing Assistant.
Presently she is employed in the Medical Field at the McLeod Regional Medical Center. Mary is married to Sammie J. Deas, Sr. To this union the Lord blessed them with three wonderful children, Tonia, Sammie Jr, and Pamela.
Her hobbies are reading, making crafts, and baking cakes. "It gives me joy just knowing who Jesus is. I am thankful for being saved and in the Truth. God has been so good to me and for this I am so grateful. I enjoy working in the Church as well as helping others in whatever I can do for them. I am truly blessed."
